Sunday, 8th September, 2024, at Kirkpatrick Durham village hall, with some 60 attendees getting a taste for the winter songs ahead.
The theme for our autumn rehearsals looks like: Wassail!
So that should be a delight, when all the songs are polished and we sing in concert at three venues over the weekend of the 13th, 14th, and 15th of December.
Thanks to Rachel for the group photos, which may bring bemused smiles to our faces as we look back on a delightful day. Each of the attendees received a pack of song material (Big Words, and/or notation sheets) and registration with crucial emergency contact numbers was refreshed for returning members, or facilitated for new recruits.
Then it was on with the warm-up exercises, including both general physical dynamics and a few vocal twirls up and down the scale, before Kate launched us into song. We must have worked on at least nine different numbers, but we had a kind of post-modern ironic second-take over the Seraphic Minstrels song. It’s not often that joy is so explicitly celebrated!
So the workshop has set us up for a full term of enjoyable singing together, and it’s a racing certainty that each voice will play its own part in the overall blend.
